National Recognition Program honors academic excellence
Oak Hills Local Schools is very proud to announce that three Oak Hills seniors and a 2023 graduate have earned honors in the College Board's National Recognition Program.
Seniors Alexis Lackey and Fiona Wafula and 2023 graduate Nevaeh Nelson have been named National African American Recognition Award winners, and senior Sophia Boone has been named a National Hispanic Recognition Award winner.
Award criteria include achieving a GPA of 3.5 or higher and excelling on the PSAT/NMSQT, or earning a score of 3 or higher on at least two Advanced Placement exams, and identifying as African American or Black, Hispanic, Latina or Indigenous; or attending school in a rural area or small town.
The prestigious awards help under-represented students stand out on college and scholarship applications.
As the honorees enter senior year, Alexis's preliminary plans are to major in political science at the University of Tennessee. Fiona plans to pursue studies in health sciences/pre-med at the Ohio State University. Sophia plans to study fashion design or criminology at the University of Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Nevaeh is now a student at Clemson University, majoring in criminal justice/law enforcement administration.
OHLSD is extremely proud of these young women's accomplishments and looks forward to watching their success in future academic pursuits. Well done!
