Class of 1973 holds Butterfly Chairs Dedication Ceremony

Butterfly Chairs
The Oak Hills High School Class of 1973 held a very special ceremony this past Saturday morning where they dedicated five memorial butterfly chairs that were made to honor their five classmates that were killed by a drunk driver on the night of the Homecoming Dance in 1972.
The chairs reside at the Memorial Fountain, which was built in 1973 in their memory. The butterfly chairs were an idea that was born at Class of 1973's 50th Reunion last year. Classmates wanted to do something in addition to honor their memory. The fountain has five sprays and now five chairs, one for each student tragically lost.
The chairs were constructed at Diamond Oaks by Oak Hills student Clayton Doering (Class of 2023), who made them last year as part of his senior project. Doering, along with Diamond Oaks teachers Leamon WIlson and Lonnie Marimon, were recognized at the ceremony for their contributions to the project.

Members from the Eckert and Wullenweber families addressed the crowd at the ceremony and thanked everyone for attending and for their contributions to the memorial. Special thanks to WLWT Channel 5 for their coverage of this loving tribute to our Highlander families.
