Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Posted on: August 17, 2021 7:00 pm

Congratulations to our first GMC Athletes of the Week for the 2021-22 school year!

Anthony Singler     Boys' Golf    Sr.
Senior Captain Anthony Singler opened the season with a top 10 (77) at Beechwood Invitational.

Abby Linenkugel Girls' Soccer Jr.
Abby, a 2020 2nd team All GMC athlete, has had a spectacular preseason. She started and played up top for the Highlanders her first two years. In 2021, she's embraced the Center Back position, in order to give the team experience in the back and to help her team have the best chance to win. From the Center Back position, she earned an assist and even helped the team secure a shutout this past week against Mercy McAuley in a scrimmage.

Daniel Claypool Boys' Soccer Sr.
Dan is a three-year varsity starter and will be the anchor of our defense as well as one of our team leaders. His ability to shut down opposing attackers as well as get up the field into our offense are key attributes that will help drive our team this season. Dan has a 3.83 GPA.

Samantha Nuss           Girls' Golf               Sr.
Sam is a Senior this year and will complete the year as a 4-year Varsity Golfer. She is consistently in our top 2 and, as such, is a huge contributor to our improvement and success over the last few seasons. Last week, in a tournament with 19 teams and over 100 golfers, she tied as having the best score of the entire tournament (tournament co-medalist). Her average has improved by nearly 18 strokes since freshman year, due to her hard work and dedication. She works just as hard in school with a 3.71 GPA and will be taking six honors-level courses this year.

Jonathan Kleier Football Sr.
Jonathan was voted a captain this season on the varsity football team and will start for the second season at center. In our first two scrimmages, this season John has played tremendously and continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership both on and off the field. He also carries a 3.61 GPA.

Gabrielle Kadakia        Girls' Tennis     Jr.
Gabrielle opened the season by going 4-0 at second singles. She picked up wins over Mason, Kings, Seton, and Anthony Wayne. Academically, Gabrielle is a strong performer as well; her GPA is 4.0. In addition, Gabrielle is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, the student council, and a class officer. After high school, Gabrielle wants to continue her tennis career in college.
