Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

Alex Schmidt         Boys' Swimming       Sr
Alex is an athlete that all coaches wish for. He has stepped up to take many different roles to benefit the team. He has placed in diving, filled crucial swimming events when needed, and provides additional leadership by his actions and words. He has even been known to swim the 500 without goggles. Alex will be attending Mount St. Joseph as a student-athlete majoring in criminology.

David Schroer      Boys' Swimming       Fr
David has already impacted the swim and dive team as a diver. He has placed in his first few meets, continues to add new dives and his scores continue to climb. As a freshman, David is positioned to contribute at the GMC meet and have success as a first-year diver at the state tournament.

Abby Rutherford        Girls' Swimming          Fr
Abby has been working hard her first year to add to her successes for the team. She has placed in all of her meets so far and with continued practice, is expected to contribute in a big way at the GMC meet.

Ashley Brueckner       Girls' Swimming          Fr
In a short time, Ashley has improved tremendously as a 100 fly swimmer. What makes her stand out is her ability to handle setbacks. After having a difficult time in an individual event at the Lakota meet, Ashley recovered and was able to successfully complete two more events. She does not let her teammates down and is a favorite amongst her peers.

Cora Mundstock        Girls' Bowling         Fr
In her first year, Cora is proving to be a very valuable member of the girls' bowling team. This past week, she competed in her first-ever varsity tournament and was 3rd highest for the team overall. Cora brings a very positive attitude and energy to the team.

Zach Taphorn               Boys' Bowling         Sr
Zach rolled a 433 series making the all-tournament team at the back to school bash. Zach also helped lead the team to the championship finals as the boys finished 2nd out of 20.

Brynn Gourley           Girls' Basketball        Sr
Brynn, a senior captain, scored six points, grabbed two rebounds, had a steal and an assist in a loss to Harrison last week. Brynn scored all of her points in the third quarter to spark an 18-6 run to bring the Highlanders back into the contest. She is an honor student with a 3.9 GPA.

Sam Weidner       Boys' Basketball                Jr
