Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!

Leanna Steelman Softball Jr
Leanna is a 2nd year varsity outfielder. Leanna had a standout game against Lakota West going 3 for 3 to help her team with a come from behind win against the Firebirds. Leanna also hit .500 against Hamilton to help clench the 4-2 win. The Highlanders have started the first week of league play 2-0.

Mary Blessing Girls' Track Sr.
Mary is off to a fantastic start this season and has already shown noticeable improvement from last year. At the Ross All Comers meet last week, she was a key member of the winning 4x800 relay team and captured her first-ever varsity win by taking first place in the 800 meters. She has already shaved 6 seconds off her 800-meter time from last season.

Brady Raible Boys' Volleyball Sr.
Brady had a very impressive game vs Badin, including 12 kills with only 4 errors, 18 serving attempts and passed a 2.73 on the day!

Biore Harris Girls' Track Jr.
Biore learned to hurdle late last season and showed some initial promise. During the preseason this year, she worked very hard and picked up way ahead of where she left off last season. Despite having high hopes for her first meet of the year, Biore ended up pretty disappointed with her performances. In an impressive show of determination, she bounced back very strongly at the Ross All Comers meet and ran almost a 3 second personal best in the 100m high hurdles, placing 4th. Biore also tied for 3rd in high jump.

Jack Henkener Boys' Track Sr.
Jack is a senior on our throwers squad and wears the mantle of most experienced thrower. His wisdom, selflessness and earned-respect have turned out to be the perfect mixture for him to assume the leadership role that his team needs. Jack has assisted his teammates with learning effective competition habits and he was very helpful with the preparation for and running of our home JV meet this week.

Ryan Linenkugel Boys' Track Sr.
Ryan finished last season as one of our highest point scorers, but has had to hold back this season due to nagging injuries. After a very quiet first meet (for him) he looked just like his old self at the Ross All Comers meet with wins in long jump and the 110m high hurdles, along with a third place finish in the 200m. His high hurdle and 200m performances were lifetime bests.

Landen Seifert Baseball Sr.
Landen threw 4.1 Innings, giving up 0 runs, on 2 hits, with 4 K's picking up the win in our season opener vs LaSalle 3-0.

Brayden Lipps Baseball Sr.
Brayden got his first varsity win vs Sycamore throwing 3.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, with 4 K's.

Alex See Girls' Lacrosse Soph
Alex had a great week in goal against some tough competition. In two games against Mason and Loveland, she had 20 saves and 2 ground balls. She is a vocal leader for our defense and always comes with a positive attitude. As the season continues, we know Alex will greatly impact our success against our best opponents!
