Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week
Congratulations to our Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
 
Averie Thomas                    Girls' Swimming                              Sr.
Averie is a Senior on the swim team and competed in her last dual meet of the season on Saturday against Lakota East.  She swam some of her fastest times of the season with a split of 32.94 in the 50 Back on the 200 Medley Relay, a 2:19.43 in the 200 Freestyle, a  1:11.37 in the 100 Backstroke, and a 1:02.57 in the 100 Free on the 400 Freestyle Relay.  Averie is President of the National Honor Society and President of the Future Health Care Professionals Club.  She will be swimming in the GMC Championships this weekend, Sectionals on Feb. 8 and, hopefully, Districts on February 15.  Congratulations, Averie!
 
Cloe Kelly                         Girls' Wrestling                        Soph
Chloe won 1st place at the Milford Invitational.  in the process did not give up a single point to a opponent.  She also helped lead Oak Hills Women's team to a team title.  
 
Albert Loving                    Boys' Wrestling                        Jr.
Albert competed at a tri dual against Fairfield and Sycamore winning both matches with a fall and a tech fall.
 
Jack Ludwig                     Boys' Swimming                         Sr
Jack is a Senior on the swim team and swam in his last dual meet this weekend against Lakota East.  Jack swam the 50 Free in a 24.98 and the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 106.51 which is his fastest time this season.  Jack is a Captain of the swim team and looks to swim fast this weekend at GMC's and even faster at Sectionals to qualify for Districts.  Congratulations, Jack!
 
Emma Brunner                   Girls' Bowling                         Sr.                      
Senior Emma Brunner had a very good week of bowling! She started at Eastern Lanes in the match with Middletown by rolling a series of 360 pins, averaging 180 pins per game and leading the Lady Highlanders to remain undefeated in the GMC. She ended the week by rolling the second highest series in the West Division of the East vs. West Showdown and placing on the All-Tournament team! Emma currently holds the 6th highest average in the GMC with a 164.6.
 
Leah Maly                              Girls' Bowling              Soph
Sophomore Leah Maly has made a big impact on the girls bowling team in her first year as a member of the Varsity B girls team. This past weekend, Leah bowled in the East vs. West Showdown where she rolled a series of 430 pins; averaging 143 pins per game which is 10 pins more per game than her season average! This series was the 10th highest individual series rolled in the West Division!
 
Maggie Rankin                          Academic Team            Jr.         
Maggie has been a leader on the Academic Team this season.  She was voted a team captain and has performed well throughout the year!  Maggie's broad knowledge base is invaluable to our team.  Maggie is also one of the top students in the Class of 2026!
 
Demetri Vetter                            Boys' Basketball                                 Soph
Demetri has split time with the JV and Varsity Boys' Basketball teams this season. He is a versatile, hard working, skilled guard who can defend AND shoot the ball. He has been an excellent teammate as well, and Demetri is a multi-sport athlete (Basketball and Football).
 
Jackson Mundstock                    Boys' Bowling                      Soph
This is Jackson's first season on the team and he is slowly getting better each week. He has recently improved his average over 20 pins, and is consistently improving every match. 
 
George Gigous                        Boys' Bowling                           Jr.
George has become a strong member of the varsity bowling team stepping up to the plate whenever called upon. He is currently top 25 in average in the GMC. George continues to strive to improve his game and has been a great teammate. 
 
Bella Dehner Girls' Basketball Jr
Bella plays as hard as anyone in the GMC! That showed up last week when she had a team high 6 offensive rebounds despite being one of the smallest players on the court. She added 2 steals, an assist and 2 charges taken during the two games as well. Bella has had a great season so far for the Lady Scots!
