Highlander GMC Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to the Highlanders who were named GMC Athletes of the Week!
Lila Joseph Academic Team Sr.
Lila is returning for her fourth season on the Academic Quiz Team, making her the most experienced player on our team. Lila makes a positive impact not just on the Academic Quiz Team, but on our entire school. She is a senior class officer, a member of the National Honor Society and the Tri M Music Honors Society. Lila has really shined within our music program through her participation in multiple extracurricular music activities including Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Treble Choir, Bella Voci, Varsity Singers, Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of the D.J. Club. After Lila graduates in May, she plans to attend college and become a doctor.
Maddie Broxterman Girls' Bowling Jr.
At the BHS Classic on December 30th in Bellefontaine, Junior Maddie Broxterman had an excellent day! Maddie led the Varsity A team to their highest team game of 927 with her outstanding new personal high game of 236! Maddie's total series for the day was a 551, for an average of 183.67, more than 40 pins above her current average.
Preston Banzhaf Boys' Bowling Jr.
Preston made the all tournament team at the Jingle Bell Bash and helped anchor the boys to a win this past weekend. Preston has been a solid core member of the bowling team this season which has helped the boys stay undefeated.
Henry Maginn Boys' Basketball Sr.
Henry is a captain and team leader in work ethic. He had a great 3 games in Charleston, South Carolina and helped the team defeat Lakota East to start the new year. Over that time frame, he scored 55 points and did the majority of ball handling for our team. He is an excellent student with a 4.21 GPA, and has been a multi-sport athlete (Basketball/Baseball). He is also involved with SALT (Student Leadership) and mentors elementary students in the Basketball Buddy program.
Marco Sabin Boys' Bowling Soph
Marco made the all tournament team at the Jingle Bell Bash rolling a 464 series, which helped the boys win the tournament. Marco has had a solid season and has helped the JV boys stay undefeated.
Logan Meyer Boys' Swimming Soph
Logan is a Sophomore on the Boy's Swim team. He is beginning to challenge himself every day by working hard in the weight room, during dryland, and in the water. He is close to achieving his personal best times in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events with so much time left in the season. This past Thursday, he swam his fastest time in the 50 Freestyle (24.85) on the winning relay. We are proud of Logan and look forward to his future accomplishments!
Ella Weinmann Girls' Bowling Jr.
Junior Ella Weinmann has had a great start to her 3rd year as a member of the Girls Varsity team! Ella currently holds an average of 168.5 pins per game, which is the 3rd highest in the GMC. At the Big Blue Challenge on December 15th, Ella rolled games of 191-174-167 for a series of 532, which was the 12th highest series for the tournament. Not only is Ella a leader statistically, but she is also a fantastic leader of the team with her positive attitude, no-quit spirit, and drive to challenge herself to become better with each game she rolls.
Chazz Tallarigo Boys' Wrestling Sr.
Chazz Tallarigo finish 1st place at SWOWCA Coaches Classic, also finished the second quarter with all A's.
Samantha Montag Girl's Wrestling Fr
Samantha got her first Varsity win at the prestigious F.I.G.H.T. Invitational. It is early in the season and Samantha got her first win against some of the best competition in the country.
Emma Tharp Girls' Basketball Soph
Emma scored her first varsity basket during our 2 game Holiday tournament, where she finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds in the games! Emma has been a great teammate throughout the season and continues to improve. Emma holds a 4.62 GPA and is ranked in the top 30 of the sophomore class.
