February 25 ACT day
Dear Highlander Families:
Late winter to early spring is testing season here at Oak Hills High School. While your student may participate in End-of-Course or Advanced Placement tests, this message is to inform you about the ACT, a national college-admission exam given to juniors across the state.
Oak Hills High School will give the first administration of this test on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Only juniors who are taking the ACT will report to school that day. Most will be dismissed by 12:30 p.m.
Generally, the test takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Students with IEPs or 504 plans may have accommodations that include extended time and small-group testing. Our staff works hard to create an optimal testing environment for everyone while meeting the needs of students who require special accommodations. If you are unsure whether your student receives testing accommodations, please call Kristi Murphy, Coordinator for Special Programs, at 513-922-2300.
Students who are assessed through Alternative Assessment will not report to school on Feb. 25. If you are unsure if your student takes part in Alternative Assessment, again please call Kristi Murphy at 513-922-2300.
While freshmen, sophomores and seniors are not required to attend school on Feb. 25, we encourage them to participate in the following activities:
Freshmen:
You can choose to take part in an event organized by your Magnified Giving Tartan Time group, or an organized volunteer event planned by your Tartan Time teacher. You may also participate in an individual volunteer opportunity through a non-profit of your choice.
Sophomores:
Our goal for you is to continue preparing for the ACT, which you will begin taking as a junior. On Oct. 24, you completed a pre-ACT test and were asked to review the results with your Tartan Time teacher during your CCR meeting. If you were unable to attend that meeting, please schedule a time with your Tartan Time teacher to review those scores.
Feb. 25 is also a good day to begin exploring ACT-prep programs and materials. A free one is PrepFactory. To access it:

Go to your TT Google Classroom and use the link posted for PrepFactory that is connected to your TT teacher.
-
Create an account (if you haven’t already done this in TT).

After Pre-quiz #1, the site will differentiate based on your Pre-quiz score.
PrepFactory is an excellent, free ACT prep tool that you can use over the next few years. If you have questions, contact Robin Jacobs at [email protected].
