Art and Music - what a great combination
Ten years ago, Oak Hills alumnus Gretta Blankenship opened Aroma’s Java & Gelato on Bridgetown Road. Gretta and her husband are both graduates of the class of 1977. During the summer of that first year in 2007, Steve Groh, Art teacher at OHHS, stopped by to get a coffee and noticed how friendly Aroma’s was to teenagers….and how blank the walls were. After a conversation with Gretta, they developed a plan to have a student photography show there the following school year. The first show was hung that winter and on Friday, December 5 of 2008 an opening night party was held. Aroma’s was packed with proud Oak Hills photographers and their friends and family. The work was sold for $20 a piece and hundreds of dollars of work were sold that night alone….all of the profits going directly to the young artists. It was so well attended and so much fun, the decision was made to do it again. Since that time, Oak Hills photography classes have been having a student show at Aroma’s twice a year; once in December and then again in May. Starting next Friday, April 27, Aroma's will be hosting our 20th Student Photography Show. We will have live music by alumnus Corey Watzek that evening so we hope you will be able to drop in and join us between 7 and 9 pm. The work of over 50 Oak Hills students will be on display and available for sale.
