Title 1 Services Overview
The Oak Hills Title I Program is a federally funded program designed to help students improve their academic skills, specifically in the areas of reading and math, and support students’ social-emotional development. In schools that meet federal Title 1 guidelines, Title 1 funds are used for additional staff members and instructional materials that supplement current academic programs and support social-emotional programs. The Oak Hills Local School District has determined that the greatest need for Title I services is at the elementary level. During the 2019-20 school year, students at Delshire Elementary School and St. Dominic School receive support services funded by Title 1. All Title 1 instructional staff members are rated Highly Qualified by the Ohio Department of Education.
Parents are invited to take an active role in their child’s education by reading to their child, supporting homework completion, attending family literacy events, attending parent meetings/conferences, volunteering at school, and completing teacher recommended activities with their child. Parents will also be asked to evaluate the program and provide feedback about their child’s experience to help with future Title 1 planning. Communication between Title 1 staff and parents is highly encouraged. Title I staff members are available for conferences during regularly scheduled district conference days, as well as any time parents desire to have individual discussions with the teachers via meetings, notes, phone calls, and email.
Title 1 staff members frequently assess students to monitor progress and ensure interventions are effective. This assessment information is shared with parents, classroom teachers, school intervention teams, and administrators. It is also used to plan future instruction.
