WSSN
“WSSN” stands for Springmyer School News. We produce three shows a year – one production by each fifth grade class. Students sign up for the program. As reporters, they gather information about activities that are occurring or have occurred in our school and around our community. Next, they work on revising, and practicing their segments for taping. The moderator completes final taping and editing. It is a wonderful format for students to increase their writing and presentation skills, and a way to exhibit our pride in classmates, parents, staff, and community. This is one of many programs that make Springmyer unique and competitive in today’s educational market. Contact Mr. Mark Oldfield for further information. oldfield_m@ohlsd.org

Band
Welcome to fifth grade band. This exciting program is offered to students in grade 5 only. Students who participate in music education frequently do better than their peers on many measures of academic achievement such as grade-point averages and standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Students meet three times a week and hold a minimum of two concerts to exhibit their talents throughout the school year. The general music teacher gives students more details at the beginning of the school year.

Encore
Encore is Springmyer Elementary’s after-school choral group. Encore is open to any 4th or 5th grade student who loves music and loves to sing! Encore meets every Monday from 3:15-4:15 in the music room. Encore members learn how to produce a beautiful singing tone through breath support, proper diction, vowel placement and more! They also learn how to read music and use basic musicianship skills while singing fun, exciting, and challenging songs! Being a part of Encore is a fabulous opportunity for students to learn how to sing correctly, learn performing techniques and gain self confidence! Encore performs at the Winter and Spring Performing Arts concerts and also at the Spring Art Show! For more information please contact Elisabeth Knudsen. Knudsen_E@ohlsd.org
