We would like to thank everyone who participated in the One Hope, One Heart event on May 10, at Oak Hills High School. Without the help of our many volunteers, parents and community members our event would not have been such a success.

This year we raised $7,163.00 which helped district families who experienced tragic situations. Every school joined the competition and a big congratulations to Delhi Middle School for winning the competition.

Thanks again to all those who participated.

15th Annual Oak Hills Alumni & Educational Foundation Dinner

Congratulations to all of the Gray and Tate Scholarship winners as well as our Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Joel P. Reginelli ’86 and Diane Weidner ‘85, Distinguished Staff, Kim Dobbs ’74 and Hall of Honor Award Winner, Jan Wilking ’89. It was such a delight to come together and support their many accomplishments. For the fifteenth year in a row the Western Hills Country Club has hosted another memorable night celebrating the success of many honorable people. This year’s turnout was phenomenal, with the largest attendance to date. The Oak Hills Alumni & Education Foundation is proud to provide the grants to teachers wanting to make big changes in the way students learn outside the classroom.

“This year’s dinner was an overwhelming success,” Cheryl Sieve, Chairman of the Foundation, said. “It displayed the support and gratitude our Alumni and Community have for the teachers and students of the Oak Hills Local School Distirct!”

The Foundation accommodated and entertained the guests in full Highlander spirit with a warm welcome by Bagpiper Bill. After hearing touching acceptance speeches from each award winner the crowd left with a greater understanding for why each was chosen as well as their appreciation for their Oak Hills education. “We were pleased to host our largest crowd ever for the Foundation dinner this year. This yearly event provides a great opportunity to showcase the work of our teachers and students and highlight the contributions of the Foundation to our schools and our community. It’s wonderful to have our distinguished alumni and staff recognized and their speeches were outstanding,” Emily C. Buckley, Coordinator of Development for Oak Hills, said.

RECYCLE Levy Signs

Please bring your sign into any school building or to district office for them to be recycled. If you need someone to pick them up, please contact a school building.

Hi all! Camp Invention is once again returning to Oakdale Elementary June 24-28 (daily 9:00am-3:30pm). This week long adventure in creativity immerses children in imaginative play that reinforces and supplements school-year learning in the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Delshire Students Complete the Cincinnati Flying Pig Kids Marathon Final Mile

Thirty students from Delshire Elementary School ran in the Flying Pig Kids Marathon Final Mile on Saturday, May 4. The race took place downtown; beginning and ending near Great American Ballpark.

The students prepared for the race at home with family and friends for the last few months. They kept a ‘hog log’ of their 25 miles they walk/run prior to the race. The kids earned miles by walking, running or playing outside and being active for an hour.

Andy Winkle, physical education teacher at Delshire, said, “the main goal was to get the students to be active.”

“I have been busy practicing for the Flying Pig. I have done a lot of miles at the zoo and at soccer practice,” first grader Audrey Merriss said.

Third grader Peyton Jernigan explained, “I’m was excited for the race because this was the first year my little brother, Anthony (a first grader at Delshire) got to do it with me.”

Oak Hills Treasurer Awarded by State Auditor

Ohio Auditor of State, Dave Yost, recently presented Ronda Johnson, Treasurer of the Oak Hills Local School District, with the Ohio Auditor of State Award with Distinction. The award is presented for excellence in financial reporting for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012. The award states “your exemplary reporting serves as the standard for clean, accountable government, representing the highest level of service to Ohioans.”

The award letter further states “clean and accurate record keeping are the foundation for good government, and the taxpayers can take pride in your commitment to accountability.”

The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) requires that the audit report be free from any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, or questionable costs.

State Auditor Dave Yost presented Johnson with the award at the Auditor of State’s Regional Advisory Board meeting held in Clermont County. Johnson was invited to serve on the Board to help define and implement better practices for the State Auditor’s Office and other local governments. The Board serves to support Yost in the implementation of new initiates, review existing ones, and brainstorm ways to make the auditor’s work more productive.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the District. Achieving a perfectly clean audit report is very difficult and this award recognizes the integrity of our reporting along with my staff’s commitment and dedication to the highest standards of fiscal accountability.”

Oak Hills High School Photography Students Display Artwork

Ever since December of 2008, the talented photography students of Oak Hills High School have been putting on an amazing art show twice a year at Aroma’s Java & Gelato on Bridgetown Road. We are proud to announce that the 10th Biannual photo exhibition will be opening on May 10th at 7pm.

All of the photographs in this show have been created by students at Oak Hills High School. They shot the images, developed the film, and printed each photo with their own hands. Film photography is a challenging art medium and each step is laden with opportunities to fail. It takes a great deal of patience and more than a little skill to end up with a successful print.

These students should be very proud of what they accomplished. If you would like to meet the artists, please join us at Aroma’s on Friday, May 10 at 7 pm for the official opening of the show.

In an effort to recoup some of their lab fee, the students are selling their prints. If you ever wanted to own an original work of art, this is a chance to start your collection at entry level prices. You never know, it could be the work of the next Ansel Adams or Annie Liebovitz!
