In order to formally place a substitute levy on the ballot, our Board of Education is required to pass two resolutions:
1. Resolution of Necessity
2. Resolution to Proceed

At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, our Board approved a Resolution of Necessity to place a substitute levy on the ballot for the May 2017 election.

A recommendation for the Resolution to Proceed will be included on the January Board agenda.

In November 2013, our community supported a 5-year emergency levy which will expire in December 2018. The intention of the substitute levy is to secure the funding from the emergency levy (passed in November 2013) on a continuous basis. The substitute levy would begin collection in 2019; thus providing a seamless transition from the current emergency levy which expires in 2018.

What does this mean to the local taxpayer?
No additional taxes – assuming property valuations remain stable.

What does this mean to the District?
Passage of the substitute levy will secure the existing revenue stream of $5 million. The revenue generated from a substitute levy would be used for the operational needs of the District, such as staffing and utilities, and would not be used for infrastructure or facility needs.
