Oak Hills Local School District, ArtWorks Team Up to Decorate New Hospital

Oak Hills High School, Bridgetown Middle School and C.O. Harrison Elementary School are working with ArtWorks, a local non-profit arts organization, to help decorate the new Children’s
Hospital facility in Green Township.

Students at the College of Mount Saint Joseph will be integrating the ideas and drawings of Oak Hills Local School District students and community members into seek-and-find illustrations that patients and their families can interact with during their time in the facility.

Teachers at the three district schools asked their students four questions in developing the illustrations:

  • What is best about the West side of Cincinnati?
  • What do you like to do in your community?
  • What are some of your favorite places in your community?
  • Who are the people you look up to in your community?

In addition to the illustrations, students are also able to create fields of watercolors that will be used as the backgrounds for the seek-and-find artwork. Students involved with the project saw the importance in what they were doing to brighten other people’s days.

“It will bring joy and smiles to the visitors and patients at the hospital,” said Jordyne Gaskins, a student at Bridgetown Middle School. “It makes everyone who is involved feel good.”

The final artwork will be displayed in the new Green Township facility when it opens in 2013 .
